Barred Owl

“On no subject are our ideas more warped and pitiable than on death.  Instead of the sympathy, the friendly union, of life and death so apparent in Nature, we are taught that death is an accident, a deplorable punishment for the oldest sin, the arch-enemy of life, etc.  Town children, especially, are steeped in this death orthodoxy, for the natural beauties of death are seldom seen or taught in towns.”

  1. Great picture Bill. I live in Toronto, and recently, my wife, Jean, and I came upon a Barred Owl near Markham, Ontario. This was the second time in six weeks that we have come upon, and filmed, an owl out in the wilds. The first was a Saw-Whet Owl. Prior to these two sightings, we had never seen an owl in its natural habitat. Needless to say, it has been an exciting six weeks. Our pictures and video of the Barred Owl sighting are posted on our blog at: http://frametoframe.ca/photo-essay-barred-owl-sighting-markham-ontario/

  2. Easily one of my top favorites, Bill. So dramatic. Love how the browns and grays and whites of both owl and willow are nearly identical; a chameleon could do not better.

    Can’t stop staring. Beautiful.
